OVER 7,000 BENEFICIARIES TO RECEIVE CASH GRANTS, GEEP LOANS, IN IMO, ABIA

The Federal Government has begun the disbursement of Cash Grants for Vulnerable Groups in Imo and Abia states.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq flagged off the programmes on Saturday, Sept 10, 2022, at the Concorde Hotel Owerri, alongside the Digitized Payment for Conditional Cash Transfer.

At least 3,894 beneficiaries across the 27 Local Government Areas of the State will receive a twenty thousand Naira one-off Cash Grant for Vulnerable Groups in Imo state while about 4,738 beneficiaries were selected for the Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme interest-free loans.

In her address, the Minister stated that the beneficiaries will receive loans ranging from N50,000 to N300,000 for farmers, petty traders, widows and youths.

“Today, l have come to Roll-Out the programme in the “Land of Hope” Imo State. Hence, successful beneficiaries of the GEEP proagramme will start receiving credit alerts from Access bank by God’s grace.

“This is a programme designed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for vulnerable and low-income Nigerians who are involved in some sort of commercial activity or capacity but have never had the opportunity to access loans. It is meant to give priority to the most vulnerable in our society eg widows, youth, disabled and the displaced amongst others”.

NATIONAL GEEP 2.0 ROLLS OUT NATIONWIDE

The Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme GEEP 2.0 has been officially rolled out.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq launched the National phase of the programme at Daura Kasuwar Kofar ‘Yan Kudu market along Daura road, Katsina state at the weekend.

Minister Umar Farouq said during the presentation of Cheques to peasant farmers and petty business women, that the interest-free loans to beneficiaries was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s avowed commitment to fight poverty and its devastating impact from all angles.

“The Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) is a programme designed by President Muhammadu Buhari administration to create further opportunities for the poor, vulnerable and low-income Nigerians, especially those who are involved in viable informal productive activities with limited financial requirements, but have never had access to loans from the formal financial sector.

“It is meant to give priority to the most vulnerable in our society like widows, youth, Persons With Disabilities and the Internally Displaced Persons amongst others”.

6,511 BENEFICIARIES TO RECEIVE CASH GRANT FOR VULNERABLE GROUPS IN KATSINA

Over 6,500 beneficiaries will receive federal government’s Cash Grant for Vulnerable Groups in Katsina state.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq made this known at the flag off of 7 projects in Katsina state and other poverty eradication programmes of the ministry held in Katsina on Thursday.

Minister Umar Farouq said that Katsina ranked amongst one of the highest with 6511 beneficiaries due to the insurgency in the region.
“Our Grant for Vulnerable Groups target in Katsina State is to disburse grants to a total of 6,511 beneficiaries across the 34 Local Government Areas of the State, worth over N130 million. This is one of the highest slots in the country and is majorly because we took into account the impact of the insurgency, banditry and large volume of IDPs in the state.

“While the target of this Cash Grant project is to increase income and productive assets of the target beneficiaries, it is highly expected that the beneficiaries will utilise the grant to improve their productivity, create wealth, generate employment and improve their standard of living”.

Batch C Stream 2 deployment of 490,000 Npower beneficiaries in progress

The Deployment of 490,000 successful beneficiaries of the Batch C Stream 2 Npower Programme is currently ongoing.

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development through the Minister’s SA on Media and Publicity, Nneka Ikem Anibueze, disclosed the ongoing process on Saturday, stating that the Batch C Stream 1 Npower Programme ends this August 2022.

“Batch C Npower beneficiaries were divided into two streams, C1 and C2. Batch C1 was deployed in September 2021 and is due to exit the programme this August 2022 after spending 12 months in the programme.

“The payment system is transparent and verifiable using the FECs approved NASIMS platform where each beneficiary sees on the platform, reasons for payment and non-payment owing to truancy or transaction failure.

“The batch C2 pre-selected applicants have concluded their physical verification exercise using one of our strategic partners (NYSC).

“The deployment process commenced on the 1st of August for 490,000 beneficiaries to fill the space of one million N-POWER beneficiaries as approved by Mr President,” stated Mrs Anibueze.

According To NASIMS:

“PAYMENT OF JUNE STIPENDS SUCCESSFULLY INITIATED!

Payment of June stipends has successfully been initiated, while disbursement and crediting of accounts is expected to commence shortly, we appreciate your patience so far during this moment of delay.

“Thank you!”

Furthermore, beneficiaries are to exercise patients as all outstanding stipends will be paid and it is also very important that you take your Duties at the place of your primary assessment seriously in order to gain more job experience.

With the exception of the stipends for the months of July and August, which we believe will be paid on time, it appears that Npower’s management has been successful in paying the stipends of its batch C1 volunteers for ten months.

This would bring the total number of months in which Npower has paid its volunteers to ten. On the other hand, one thing is uncertain, and that is whether or not this stipend payment will be extended beyond the month of August. Whatever it is, we will have more information about it very soon.

FG Speaks On Npower Batch C1 Extension

The Federal government has raised concern about how social media users consume and spread information without investigating the material’s source, especially about alleged extension of the Batch C Stream 1 Npower initiative.

Just on Tuesday, a claim by a social blog stated the following:

“N-Power: FG Set to Retain Batch C-1 N-Teach Beneficiaries

“The Federal Government of Nigeria Npower scheme are considering extending the services of the N-teach Batch C Stream 1 Beneficiaries.

“It would recalled that the names of the successful shortlisted candidates on Stream 1 were out for fingerprint and biometrics verification and expired on June 6, 2021. Before the start of the Npower batch C program, Npower management stated unequivocally that the Npower 2020 program would last only 12 months.

“The Npower batch C stream 1 Programme was launched in August 2021, and beneficiaries began working in September 2021. According to this, the batch C1 program is scheduled to end in September 2022.

“Meanwhile, according to a statement from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, the Federal Government are considering the extension of the N-Teach Batch C Stream 1 N-Power beneficiaries which was scheduled to end in September 30th, 2022.”

Numerous errors were made in the Npower Batch C1 Extension announcement since the author solely targeted the recipients of the Batch C stream 1 Npower program and left them to wallow in their own illusions.

Recall that the Batch C Stream 1 Npower Program officially began operations in September, and that stipend payments began in September of the following year. As a result, the program officially terminates in August of the following year due to its 12-month design.

According to the writer:

“The Minister acknowledged that Nigeria had a deficit of teachers, which President Buhari’s administration had been addressing through the N-Power Teach Volunteers scheme under the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP).

“We have created a dedicated platform under the National Social Investment Programme called N-Power Teach, which engages qualified graduates to man the gaps of basic education delivery in Nigeria.

“These N-Power Teach Volunteers are deployed as teacher assistants in primary schools across Nigeria to support existing teachers.

“The aim of this, and many other Government programmes, is to increase the teacher-student ratio at the primary school level thereby enhancing the quality of students moving to secondary schools…….”

The writer stated that the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development made the aforementioned statement on Friday in Abuja when she reactivated a leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT.

The following quote attributed to the Minister was taken from Leon Usigbe’s article in The Nigerian Tribune on January 14, 2020, FG To Recruit More Qualified Teachers Under Buhari, available at https://tribuneonlineng.com/fg-to-recruit-more-qualified-teachers.

President Muhammad Buhari made the announcement, and Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), released it.

It is concerning that many social media users find it difficult to recognize fake news when they see it yet are quick to criticize real news merely because it does not support their expectations or interests.

The Batch C Stream 1 Npower Program expires in August 2022, according to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, via Nneka Ikem Anibueze, SA to the Minister for Media and Publicity.

“Batch C Npower beneficiaries were divided into two streams, C1 and C2. Batch C1 was deployed in September 2021 and are due to exit the programme this August 2022 after spending 12 months in the programme.

“The payment system is transparent and verifiable using the FECs approved NASIMS platform where each beneficiary sees on the platform, reasons for payment and for non-payment owing to truancy or transaction failure.

The Npower Management has insisted on the 31st August 2022 leave date through its official handles, noting that it would notify the general public if there was any chance of the Npower Batch C Stream 1 Extention.

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development has not yet made any official statements via its official or department handles regarding the extension of the Batch C Stream 1 Npower Program or the inclusion of any category in the program as of the time of this publication.

Disappearance of the deployment tap does not mean that the Npower Programme has ended, the Batch C2 Npower beneficiaries should understand that it in the best interest of the Ministry to ensure that all beneficiaries are fully deployed without further delay.

This newspaper anticipates that the NASIMS administration will begin disbursing July stipends to programme participants as early as next week.

What we do know is that NASIMS management has not officially announced this, but an insider source has confirmed that NASIMS management will begin paying July stipends if all goes as planned. This has not been officially announced by NASIMS management.
