This Group Of Students Still Qualifies For Nsfas Funding

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has recently examined the number of students who meet their eligibility requirements for the upcoming academic year. However, there remains a group of current recipients whose funding has been halted for a number of reasons.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) uses your financial circumstances and background to determine your eligibility as a new applicant. Progressing through your tertiary studies is an added requirement for existing NSFAS funding beneficiaries.

As a result, in order to establish these statistical factors regarding student funding eligibility, the bursary programme uses data from specific sources such as the Higher Education Management Information System (HEMIS }

After receiving the most recent Higher Education Management Information System (HEMIS) data for the 2021 academic year, the academic eligibility of students receiving provisional funding for 2022 was assessed.

Based on the most recent HEMIS statistics available, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) has determined that more than 25,000 students are currently funding-eligible.

According to HEMIS, 80% of these students have completed their undergraduate qualification. Nsfas received academic results from some universities that did not show that these students had earned their undergraduate qualifications.

The funding for these students has been suspended, and the NSFAS Board will now decide what actions need to be taken after hearing the findings of the review. Nsfas applications are currently open to all qualifying prospective students. The application process can be submitted using the following steps:

Step 1: Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
Step 2: Create a myNSFAS account.
Step 3: Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen.
Step 4: Upload required supporting documents where applicable.
Step 5: Click on ‘Submit’

The bursary scheme’s funding application window opened on 28 September 2022 and will close applications on 31 January 2023.
