STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS PROCESS: studentaid.gov/debt-relief/application
The opportunity to apply for student loan forgiveness for eligible borrowers is now open in beta mode, allowing applicants to begin signing up before the website goes fully live later in the month (hopefully).
If you make it in during the beta period (the site is granting “periodic access” to apply right now that pauses from time to time for assessments and tweaks), you’ll fill out a few lines -no paperwork required- and get a confirmation email.
All applications will begin to process once it’s announced that the site is fully up and running.
PAYMENT: Most qualifying borrowers should expect to receive debt relief within weeks of processing!
As a reminder…
Federal borrowers making under $125K will have $10,000 (total) in student loan debt forgiven
Federal borrowers who went to college on Pell Grants will have $20,000 in student loan debt forgiven
The pandemic pause on federal payments that were set to expire Aug 31 now expires on Dec 31, 2022.
