Strategy, and not noise will win me 2023 presidency – Imumolen

Published

on

A well articulated strategy that would focus on mobilising Nigerians to buy into his transformation and change agenda is what he is depending on to win next year’s elections to become president, and not unnecessary noise.

This is the position of Professor Christopher Imumolen who is the flag bearer of the Accord party, going into the elections.

The engineer, while reacting to questions in a recent interview about whether he had the structure to deliver him the nation’s number one office said he believed more in quietly winning converts to imbibe his dream of generational change in the way the affairs of the country is being run than dissipate precious energy canvassing for votes on social media platforms.

“Let me say this,” he began while responding to posers.

“Next year’s elections is going to produce a few surprises because it is those who come into the race with a well articulated strategy that would carry the day. I am a strategist and I have been all my life.”

“I have been planning this for 15 years through affecting the lives of people. I have been building my structure from the grassroots, by the use of empowerment programmes and mass mobilisation.”

“If it was due to the level of noise one could make on social media, I would probably not have won the Accord party primaries.”

“I know of candidates who made so much noise in the media but failed to get nominated for the positions they sought because they failed the acid test of putting sound strategies in place.”

“As a matter of fact, I beat candidates who were more vociferous, more vocal than I was during our own primaries. “And I tell you. While they were busy making their noise, I was more concerned with how I’d get people to vote for me. Yes, my concern is to see how Nigerians will turn out in their numbers to vote for me and my party on election day.”

“To do that, I must convince them that I am the man that has the answers to their problems as far as running Nigeria is concerned.”

“As I speak, we are planning on how to get voters, agents to vote as well as represent us in all the 176,000 polling booths across the country on election day.”

“Publicity is good. But not at the expense of real strategy to win the required votes to become the president of a country like Nigeria,” he added.

JUST IN: DSS told to investigate, arrest Shiekh Gumi

Published

on

A civil society organisation, the Coalition for Peace In Nigeria (COPIN), has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to, as a matter of urgent national importance, arrest a Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, over alleged romance with bandits/terrorists.

According to COPIN, Gumi should ordinarily be a person of interest, considering his open fraternity with bandits and kidnappers threatening national security, as well as his persistent call on the federal government to grant the terror elements amnesty.

In a statement jointly signed by the National Coordinator, Pharmacist Emeka Akwuobi, and Hajiya Fatih Yakub National Secretary, the peace advocacy group said Gumi has a lot of explanations to offer on the activities of bandits, especially those operating within the North West general area.

While commending the secret service on the professional manner it has handled the arrest of an acclaimed kidnapped Abuja/Kaduna train passengers’ negotiator, Tukur Mamu, the group insisted on the immediate arrest, interrogation and prosecution of the Islamic scholar.

“This is more so that Mamu, the bandits’ negotiator, is the undisputed spokesperson for the Kaduna-based influential Islamic cleric”, COPIN said in the statement.

The group further noted that apprehension of Gumi is fundamental to a peaceful election, considering the fact that he will provide the Service with credible/actionable intelligence on the actual locations, and modus operandi of the terrorists, culminating in their arrest.

The group threatened to organise a peaceful protest in Abuja, and other cities, should the intelligence agency fail to invite Gumi for interview.

The statement reads in full: “We have watched with keen interest the provocative tendencies of Sheikh Gumi, especially as they relate to the activities of bandits/terrorists operating within the the North West general area.”

“We note, with concern, Gumi’s call for grant of amnesty to terrorists, who have killed and maimed thousands of urarmed civilians, including women and children.

“Of particular interest is the kidnap of over one hundred Abuja/Kaduna train passengers by the terrorists in April this year, many of whom are still being held under terrible conditions.

“As a peace advocacy group, we condemn all these evil acts perpetrated by the terror group, and other enemies of state operating under whatever name, as we insist that nobody, or group has the right to take arms against the State, regardless of their grievances.

“Consequently, we demand the immediate arrest and interrogation of Gumi who, by now, should be a person of interest to all intelligence and law enforcement agencies.”

“We will not hesitate to mobilise for peaceful protests in strategic cities, including Abuja, if the DSS fail to invite the Islamic Cleric for interview on all he knows about bandits/terrorists holding the North West states, and parts of North Central, to ransom.”

“Finally, we wish to commend the DSS over the way and manner they have continued to handle Gumi’s spokesman and negotiator, Tukur Mamu, since he was returned to the country from Cairo, Egypt, last week.”

“We say the decision to approach a Federal High Court in Abuja for permission to hold him for a certain period, pending conclusion of investigation, shows that the DSS is a law-abiding agency”.

BREAKING: “Ayu can’t be removed now” – Atiku replies Wike, Makinde [REASONS]

Published

on

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has expressed his view on the call for the resignation of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the PDP.

POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that Atiku, who led other leaders of the party to Ibadan on Wednesday for an interactive session with stakeholders of the PDP said that the call for the recomposition of the National Working Committee was not impossible, but only when the constitution of the party has been amended to accommodate such demand.

According to him, “the Peoples Democratic Party is the oldest political party in Nigeria since the return of democracy and even before then. It is a party that has laid down rules and regulations.

“I have been a member of the party since when it was formed and I am still a member of the party up to the point of what it has grown to become.”

In his response to the call by some governors of the party calling for the ouster of Ayu as national chairman, which was also reaffirmed by the chief host of the event and governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, Atiku said, “there is nothing any individual can do to change the outlook of the National Working Committee of the PDP.”

He remarked further that, “the PDP is a party where there are laid down rules and regulations. What Governor Makinde is asking for is possible only when we have amended our party’s constitution. As things stand today no single individual has the power to tamper with the NWC of the party. Doing so will be illegal and it will be against our rules in the party.

“Nigerians will not trust us to govern by the tenets of rule of law if we take such arbitrary action against our own party,” he said.

The Southwest stakeholders’ interactive session was attended by leaders of the PDP across the six states of the geopolitical zone with a common resolution to ensure victory for the PDP in next year’s general election.

The PDP leaders who attended the interactive session included the chief host and Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde; governorship candidate of the PDP in Ogun State, Chief Ladi Adebutu, former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose; Osun State Governor-elect, Senator Demola Adeleke; the governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos State, Olajide Adediran and deputy governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos State, Funke Akindele.

Others are the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP and governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa; Chairman, PDP’s Governors’ Forum and Governor of Sokoto State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Tambuwal; former Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke; Deputy National Chairman of the PDP (North), Umar Damagum and national deputy chairman of the PDP (South) Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, among other stakeholders from the Southwest.

2023: Atiku reveals ‘Only Condition’ that can remove Ayu as PDP Chairman

Published

on

The 2023 presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar has finally revealed that the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu can not be removed as chairman of the party.

It can be recalled that the removal of Ayu was a major condition the Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike and his allies in the party gave to the former Vice-President for peace to reign in the party.

POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that Atiku and Wike have been at loggerheads since the Party’s presidential primaries that produced Atiku as the Party’s flag-bearer. Wike alongside 4 other PDP governors refused to support Atiku unless there is ‘fairness and equity’ in the party’s leadership structure.

Wike maintained that the Chairman of the Party and its Presidential Candidate cannot come from the same northern region as it was against the party’s zoning arrangement.

However, speaking in Ibadan on Wednesday, Atiku plainly stated; “there is nothing any individual can do to change the outlook of the National Working Committee of the PDP.”

He remarked further that, “the PDP is a party where there are laid down rules and regulations. What Governor Makinde is asking for is possible only when we have amended our party’s constitution. As things stand today no single individual has the power to tamper with the NWC of the party. Doing so will be illegal and it will be against our rules in the party.”

“Nigerians will not trust us to govern by the tenets of rule of law if we take such arbitrary action against our own party,”.
