Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Loses 3 More Cast Members

Star Trek: Picard has lost three more of its main cast members ahead of season 3. Star Trek: Picard, which sees Patrick Stewart return to the franchise as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, just concluded season 2 on May 4, 2022. The series was renewed for season 3, which is confirmed to be the final season and is set to premiere on Paramount+ sometime in 2023.

Shortly before the final episode of Star Trek: Picard season 2, it was confirmed by Allison Pill, who plays Dr. Agnes Jurati on the series and the most recent Borg Queen, that she would not be returning for season 3. Both Jeri Ryan and Michelle Hurd have been confirmed to return as Seven of Nine and Raffi, respectively, alongside Patrick Stewart. With filming underway for season 3 and with one major cast member leaving, it began to raise concerns about what the status of other members of Picard’s ragtag crew would be in the coming season.

It now appears that more members of the cast are not expected to return for Star Trek: Picard season 3. confirmed that Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, and Santiago Cabrera will not be returning for season 3. Isa Briones has played a number of roles on Star Trek: Picard, as her character Soji was a major catalyst for season 1 while in season 2 she played Kore in the present-day timeline. Evan Evagora plays the Romulan warrior Elnor, while Santiago Cabrera plays captain Cristobal Rios.

Star Trek: Picard season 2 ended with Cristobal Rios staying back in the past to start a new life, so the character’s absence in season 3 was expected. However, the news that Soji and Elnor will not be in Star Trek: Picard season 3 is certainly shocking, particularly after how both characters were sidelined for so much of season 2 with Soji staying behind and Elnor being killed in the premiere episode but brought back in the season finale. Briones had hinted about Soji’s role in Star Trek: Picard season 2 but it turned out Kore had much more screentime.

While no reason was given for the characters’ exclusion, the most likely reason is the crowded cast of Star Trek: Picard. It was confirmed that Star Trek: Picard season 3 will feature the return of much of the cast from Star Trek: The Next Generation including LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Franks, Marina Sirtis, Gates McFadden, and Brent Spiner. Star Trek: Picard season 3 is shaping up more to be the final chapter for Star Trek: The Next Generation and offer a more fitting end to the characters than Star Trek: Nemesis. Sadly this emphasis on the old crew means there is no space for the new characters of Star Trek: Picard.
