The Office has myriad moments that would make fantastic memes, t-shirts, and slogans for everyday life. While the actors delivered their lines impeccably, it’s the writers who deserve the credit for creating such hilariously unique storylines and one-liners.

These days, fans of the series all know the popular lines like “I declare bankruptcy!” but there are even more underrated lines in The Office that deserve some praise. These underrated quotes could easily be said in day-to-day life or be applied to a meme and used for a variety of situations.

And while some jokes or scenes didn’t age well—considering The Office started in 2005—most lines have been turned into memes. The expressions and deadpan deliveries have turned most of the show’s quotes into online sensations. And while there are popular scenes or lines that fans and newbies are familiar with, there are also a plethora of underrated quotes that make for the best The Office meme.

In ‘Cafe Disco,’ many saw Michael as an annoying character who pushed too far to have his idea of a cafe disco come to life. In his defense, Dunder Mifflin had extra space and Michael wanted to create a new and fun atmosphere for people to have their breaks in — filled with espresso and music.

When the office didn’t want to dance and drink espresso with him, he told them all that they took the life of a party. The quote and his serious expression are what made it such an underrated moment. A meme like this is great for anyone who doesn’t want to join in on the fun.

This underrated quote is for the serious, dedicated listener. Dwight is one of the most loyal workers Dunder Mifflin had ever seen. He was continuously the top salesman and should have easily been promoted within the company after decades of service, but Dwight’s dedication was almost too extreme for a local paper company.

In the scene, Michael asked Dwight for his undivided attention but as Dwight pointed out, no one was capable of having his undivided attention. The quote is incredibly underrated and would make the best meme for those who think a person isn’t paying attention.

Kevin Malone had some of the more relatable quotes in The Office. With Kevin, there was no alternative motive or game — what a person saw was what they got from him. His honesty was always refreshing.

Fans that related to Kevin and his love of food, sleeping, and TV need this meme. After Jim asked him how his weekend was while on the elevator, Kevin assured him it was the best because he watched TV for 14 hours. Knowing how simple it was to make Kevin happy was what made him such an endearing character.

Michael Scott had some of the smartest schemes in the office but so did Kelly Kapoor. People underestimated Kelly because of her “whatever” attitude but she always had an agenda and typically got what she wanted.

For fellow attention seekers like Kelly, this underrated quote is a go-to for a meme. Whether it’s New Year’s Day or a birthday wish, a person looking for attention needs this meme because it says it all. And considering how hard Kelly worked at getting what she wanted (Ryan, Ravi, another job title…), she most likely got the attention she deserved after this resolution.

Donna and Michael started well together. The two met at a happy hour and took off running once they admitted they were attracted to each other. However, Michael’s coworkers knew something was off with Donna. After doing some digging, Pam found out that Donna was married and that Michael was her mistress of sorts.

In ‘The Cover Up,’ Michael tried to find out if Donna was cheating on him before realizing that he was the problem in her marriage. While talking to Pam, he told her his mind was “going a mile an hour,” which isn’t technically fast. But whether it’s a stressful situation or writer’s block, this underrated quote would make a great meme for those scenarios.

In season 5’s ‘Prince Family Paper,’ Michael Scott was at a rival paper company trying to get their list of clients. He acted as if he had no idea about the paper industry and asked the man a little about himself. The man said he opened his business after coming home from Vietnam. Of course, he meant the Vietnam War, but classic Michael took it as he went to Vietnam for vacation. As many misquotes as Michael had, he has even more misses with historical matters.

A meme like this doesn’t have to include Vietnam. Instead, the simplicity of “I hear it’s lovely” is a great reaction to serious matters as well as sarcastic ones.

Kelly was one of the most relatable characters in The Office. She didn’t love her job but stayed put because change can be hard. (She’s also wildly obsessed with her coworker Ryan.) And even though she’s the only one in her department, she told the hiring committee that she managed her department as a way to look professional. When Jim reminded her that she’s the only person in her department, she responded with “But I am not easy to manage.”

This was one of Kelly’s more hilarious quotes on The Office. It’s also a line that would make the perfect meme. Whether a fan of The Office is having a bad day or questions their decision-making, they can say with honesty that they are not easy to manage.

As silly as Kevin Malone is, he has some of the most relatable quotes on The Office. Whether he’s talking about his love of food, relationships, or his job, he has a way of speaking the truth.

In this episode, Kevin realized that he was potentially wasting too much time talking about daily things. After speaking to someone who didn’t know a lot of English, Kevin realized that although the English was broken, he understood it. Plus, it saved him time. He spent one morning using broken English as a means to get to the point, which ironically wasted more time because people were concerned for him. In those moments where too many words are just going to get a person in trouble, a meme like this could be wise.

Jim and Dwight were the kings of pranks. They pranked the office on their own time but they also pranked each other. In one scene, Jim and Dwight teamed up to make up for a mistake they made on Kelly’s birthday. Jim told Dwight to call and say that he was a manager for Justin Bieber. Before Jim could get the words out, Dwight asked “Who is justice beaver?” This quickly became one of Dwight’s best quotes.

Jim, of course, followed the misquote and it became a hilarious yet underrated line in the series. Any time someone is talking about Justin Bieber or a celebrity they’re unaware of, a meme like this would add a good laugh to the conversation.

Anyone who isn’t the greatest cook or host could use a meme like this. Boiling Gatorade instead of tea is only something Erin Hannon would do (and maybe Michael Scott).

In the episode, Erin went to Florida for a business trip and decided to stay after realizing she had nothing waiting for her in Scranton. Her decision to stay in Florida was made easier when she met an older woman who needed a caretaker. Instead of making her tea, Erin boiled some Gatorade and served it as if it were normal. It’s one of her unintentionally funniest moments.

Michael Scott and Jan Levinson had a toxic, romantic relationship. After spending one careless night together, Michael fell in love with Jan and continued making comments about a future together. Before Jan gave into Michael’s charm, she turned him down and demeaned him at work.

In season 3’s ‘The Convention,’ Michael did the unthinkable and snagged a huge client for Dunder Mifflin. Jan praised him and said that she underestimated him. “Yeah, well, maybe next time you will estimate me,” Michael said dryly. The Office fans could easily use this as a meme whenever they do something that others thought they wouldn’t be able to.

Sending this “It’s casual day” meme to anyone who questions a person’s outfit is the best reaction to the situation. There’s nothing more comforting than casual or relaxed clothing, but Meredith took it too far for Casual Friday.

In ‘Casual Friday,’ Michael brought back the day designated for casual clothing in the workplace. While most people wore jeans and a nice shirt, Meredith wore a strapless purple dress that was far too short for the workplace. Many felt like Meredith’s choice was inappropriate. They warned her that it was inapt for work but she didn’t think it was fair that she’d have to change when Oscar had his bare feet showing in sandals.

In ‘Murder,’ Michael is put in an awkward predicament when he found out Dunder Mifflin was filing for bankruptcy. Kevin walked into the bathroom as Michael was washing his face and asked him if he threw up. Michael was too embarrassed to discuss so he claimed “Crazy world, lotta smells.” It’s an underrated line but Michael’s delivery is hilarious.

A meme like this could be used for virtually any embarrassing moment that a person isn’t ready to divulge.

A meme discussing taking a nap in a car before work starts could be appropriate for any hard worker who goes the extra mile. Many people show up early for work to do something extra for their boss before taking a nap in their car at some point during the day, which is why this makes the perfect meme.

When Ryan was still a temp, Michael took advantage of having an assistant and asked him to do silly things that were unrelated to life at Dunder Mifflin. In one scene, Ryan showed up early as requested with a breakfast sandwich for Michael. When Ryan gave Michael the sandwich, he realized that that was why Michael asked him in — it wasn’t work-related. Instead of sitting at his desk, Ryan did the relatable thing and took a nap in his car until work started.

One of the saddest things about Michael Scott is that he always wanted to receive the amount of love that he gave. When he was asked if he’d rather have people be afraid of him or love him, he answered “both.”

A quote like this would make a great meme in regards to new or old friendships and relationships. Michael wasn’t the smartest worker in the office but he did have some of the most outlandish (yet relatable) quotes in the sitcom.
