NSFAS News On Student Allowance 2022
The Covid-19 pandemic has changed many livelihoods, with many left unemployed. The need for tertiary education funding has increased, but the new budget allocation has given hope to a student body and fellow students.
The South African Student Congress (SASCO) welcomes the Budget speech presented by Minister of Finance Minister Mr. Enoch Godongwana.
The Finance Minister has allocated an additional allocation of R32.6 Billion for financial support to current bursary holders and first-year students under the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

As the need for funding for tertiary education increases, and with tuition fees also increasing annually, this financial support will help students who are in need of finances for their education.
Recently, SASCO released a statement which reads:
At this moment the student movement is encouraged in that the government of the ANC-led alliance has directed resources where they matter by increasing budgets behind its apex priorities being Education, Health, and Policing.
While SASCO is applauding the Finance Minister, the student body cautions the minister not to go down the wayward path of his predecessor.
SASCO said that it will be launching various initiatives to ensure students look closely at how the allocated monetary resources are used and ensure that institutions use these funds for the benefit of all deserving South African students.
The student body has stated that it is convinced that an introduction of wealth tax remains a sober call for the funding of free quality & compulsory education.
“The African National Congress (ANC) must however not forget that the ultimate goal is Free Quality & Compulsory Education for all,” read the SASCO statement.
