Masked Singer: En Vogue Knew Their Harmonies Would Give Them Away

R&B group En Vogue believes that their recognizable harmonies helped The Masked Singer panelists figure out it was them behind the Queen Cobra costumes. The Queen Cobra was introduced in a sneak peek episode of season 7 in February, and initially, fans thought just one singer was hiding behind the Team Bad costume. However, they quickly realized there was more than one Cobra while watching the trailer for the season. Though their guesses were not confirmed, the eagle-eyed fans thought there could be anywhere from three to six performers competing as a group on the show. They compared the possibility to former seasons when groups like Hanson performed as the Russian Dolls.

The group regularly performed on The Masked Singer with backup singers, also dressed as Cobras, to confuse the panelists and fans as to how many of them there really were. However, it eventually came out that there were three performers, and during the elimination, Nicole figured out that En Vogue was behind the costumes. Some of the guesses that the panelists threw out during the performers’ time on the show included Brandy and Monica, Allure, and Zhané. Ken Jeong, as always, offered the unrealistic group of Jesse J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, who collaborated on the 2014 single “Bang Bang.”

However, when it came time for the elimination, Queen Cobra was revealed to be En Vogue, and the singers believe their incredible harmonies revealed their identity. During their unmasked interview, the R&B group told The Masked Singer, “Once they heard the harmonies, which is En Vogue’s signature, we figured that would be the clue for them.” The group also revealed they think The Masked Singer clue team did a really great job putting together the clue packages. Some of the contestants’ clues were Batman, pointing to their role in Batman Forever, and a heart that said, “Be Mine,” which could point to the several love songs they’ve released throughout their career.

En Vogue also performed well-known songs like Aretha Franklin’s “I Say A Little Prayer” and Lizzo’s “Good As Hell.” In the previous episode, they performed “Leave The Door Open” by Bruno Mars, Anderson Paak and Silk Sonic, which really showed off their harmonies. While the singers did a great job on The Masked Singer, they sadly will not continue on to the finale, which leaves Firefly, Ringmaster and Prince to compete. So far, many fans believe Firefly is singer Teyana Taylor, Ringmaster is actress Hayley Orrantia, and Prince is Broadway actor Cheyenne Jackson.

The Queen Cobra contestants were definitely some of the best vocalists the show has seen. It’s sad to see them go, but luckily they had a great run and gave fans some incredible performances they’ll remember for seasons to come. En Vogue did a great job tricking The Masked Singer panelists, even if their harmonies did eventually give them away. With just three contestants left, a new champion will be crowned very soon.
