Kwara poly student arrested for allegedly stealing his girlfriend’s money and gold chain

Published

A 21-year-old student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Taoheed Garba, has been arrested for allegedly stealing his girlfriend’s money and gold chain. The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) based on the report of allegation filed by one Simiat Adebayo, his supposed girlfriend. Spokesperson of the corps in the state, Mr. Babawale Afolabi, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, said the complainant reported the case on May 9, 2022 on how Garba allegedly stole her money, a sum of N341, 000 from her bank account and her gold chain worth N250, 000. He said that the suspect withdrew the money from the girlfriend’s phone on two occasions, without any trace, until the complainant requested for her statement of account from her bank. Afolabi said that the suspect sold the complainant’s gold chain for N105,000 to unknown buyer at one of the markets in the metropolis. He also said that the suspect allegedly beat the complainant when she confronted him for stealing her money and gold, which made the complainant to make a report leading to his arrest. Taoheed admitted to have stolen the sum of money and gold, but denied beating the girlfriend. “I actually stole the money from her account because of my need for money to enrol in School of Aviation after my Higher National Diploma (HND) in the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.  The state commandant, Mr. Makinde Ayinla, who frowned at the act, warned students to be careful with their relationship with opposite sex, saying that they should be security conscious. Ayinla assured that the suspect would be taken to court soon and be prosecuted accordingly.  The post Kwara poly student arrested for allegedly stealing his girlfriends money and gold chain appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Robert Sarver to sell Phoenix Suns and Mercury after N-word scandal

Published

on

Robert Sarver will be selling both the Phoenix Suns and the Phoenix Mercury after an NBA investigation revealed that he used the n-word multiple times during his tenure as an owner in the leagues. The NBA investigation also revealed that Sarver made inappropriate comments toward women, and didn’t treat his employees fairly or equally. Commissioner Adam Silver who fined him $10 million and suspended him one year over the offence, had insisted the punishment was strong enough. Sarver however announced on Wednesday morning September 21, that he is “beginning the process of seeking buyers for the Suns and the Mercury”, just after fans and multiple star players including LeBron James, Chris Paul and Draymond Green called for more severe sanctions.  He said in the statement;  “Words that I deeply regret now overshadow nearly two decades of building organizations that brought people together — and strengthened the Phoenix area — through the unifying power of professional men’s and women’s basketball.”But in our current unforgiving climate, it has become painfully clear that that is no longer possible — that whatever good I have done, or could still do, is outweighed by things I have said in the past.”I do not want to be a distraction to these two teams and the fine people who work so hard to bring the joy and excitement of basketball to fans around the world.”I want what’s best for these two organizations, the players, the employees, then fans, the community, my fellow owners, the NBA and the WNBA. This is the best course of action for everyone.”In the meantime, I will continue to work on becoming a better person, and continuing to support the community in meaningful ways. Thank you for continuing to root for the Suns and the Mercury, embracing the power that sports has to bring us together.”The post Robert Sarver to sell Phoenix Suns and Mercury after N-word scandal appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Court refuses to grant Baba Ijesha‘s bail application pending appeal

Published

on

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of Ikeja Special Offences Court on Wednesday September 21, refused to grant a bail application filed by convicted Nollywoord actor, James Olarewaju, alias Baba Ijesha. Ijesha had sought bail for an appeal to the five-year conviction for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl. Taiwo struck out the bail application on grounds of the actor not meeting exceptional circumstances and criteria.  The judge said;  “The applicant must show special and exceptional circumstances because the term given to him is five years which is to run concurrently.“There is no evidence that the appeal has been entered and there is no indication before this court that the court will not treat the case expeditiously.“It is in the view of this court that the applicant has failed to show special circumstances to warrant him bail because he is facing a serious crime.“In view of this case, I am inclined to refuse the bail application of the applicants pending appeal.”  The post Court refuses to grant Baba Ijeshas bail application pending appeal appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
