Helb News  – Students at universities are now requesting that the government of President William Ruto solve the issue of the delay in the transfer of funding from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

University students groups noted in a statement released on Thursday that HELB loan delays have caused many students to face significant difficulties in their coursework and campus life in general.

According to Kenya Private Universities Student Association (KPUSA) Chairman Marco Laboso, “To start with, many freshmen have had to delay attending the institution, despite achieving the minimal C+ grade.

The leaders of the university students emphasized that the majority of institutions need at least 90% of the tuition to be paid before admittance.

They also pleaded with the government to encourage student leadership initiatives as part of youth empowerment.

On the same conference, KPUSA Secretary General Victor Mwalu stated that continuing students are still struggling with money issues.

“One has to feed, pay rent, and acquire scholarly materials, among many other demands, in addition to paying tuition fees, lest studies be disturbed. This might produce sadness,” said Mwalu.

Victor Mwalu continued, “Even when students are awarded loans, the amount is occasionally insufficient given the high cost of living. Eighty percent of university students depend on study loans to make life on campus livable.
