Cyclone ‘Asani’ to make landfall in Odisha! SRC issues advisory, know details

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued an advisory in view of the possible Cyclone ‘Asani’ which is likely to make landfall in Odisha on May 10.

In his letter to all the RDCS/ ADG, LAW & ORDER/ IG, Fire Services/ Commandant, NDRF 03 BN, MUNDALI/ Departments of F & ARD/ Agriculture & FE/ Water Resources/ PR & DW/H & UD, the SRC said that as per the special bulletin issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD) at 2 PM today (06.05.2022), a low pressure area lies over South Andaman sea & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal at 8.30 AM of today.

It is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal by 7th May evening and into a cyclonic storm over east central Bay of Bengal by 8th May evening. It is very likely to continue to move northwestwards and reach west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts on 10th May.

Weather forecast and warning in associated with this low pressure system are as follows:

RAINFALL: Light to moderate rainfall is very likely at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Khurda, Puri and Jagatsinghpur.

WIND WARNING: Gale wind speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph is likely to prevail over Central parts of Bay of Bengal on 9th May and gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely to prevail over West central and adjoining northwest & east central Bay of Bengal on 10th May 2022.

SEA CONDITION: Sea condition is likely to become high over central parts of Bay of Bengal on 9th May and over west central & adjoining northwest and east central Bay of Bengal on 10th May.

FISHERMEN WARNING FOR DEEP SEA AREA: Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea area over the central Bay of Bengal on 9th & 10th May and over northwest Bay of Bengal on 10th May. Fishermen whoevers out at sea are advised to return to coast by 10th May 2022.

ADVISE: The system may be closely watched & monitored. Flood situations may likely to occur and waterlogging may arise in low-lying areas. Advice for fishermen to be strictly followed. Keep the district administration alert and in readiness to meet any eventuality.
